Final Results – 2025 Competitions

Key
Benevolent Triples are competed for by self selected triples from within the club. The winning triple goes on to compete at the County level.
Froude Cup is competed for on Monday evening roll-ups. The Format is decided on the night depending on attendees. Some arcane magic is applied to make the teams as evenly matched as possible on the night. Points are awarded to members as per the description below. The cup is awarded on Finals Day.
Handicapping/Seeding is agreed by the senior members of the Club’s bowling community based on the player’s perceived skills and observed performance and is only applicable to those competitions specifically identified (H’capped, Seeded). Handicaps are applied as shots given by the handicapped player to their opponent at the start of a match and are in the range 0 – 6. Seeding ensures that more experienced players do not meet each other in early rounds of tournaments.
Club handicaps for 2025 may be viewed here.
Round Robins are (generally) played over 18 ends, Each Team plays 3 ends with every other team, the team with the highest shot score overall wins.
Yates Cup is an inter club competition for Reading local Park clubs currently only Prospect Park, Caversham Park and Palmer Park compete for the trophy. Each club plays 2 home matches and 2 away matches with each other club.
Novices is a singles competition open to all bowlers who have not won a Singles competition in any club.
Note: Unless otherwise stated (e.g. gender specific) all Competitions are open to ALL playing members. New Bowlers are encouraged to enter as many competitions as they can including friendly matches with other clubs.
Competition Rules
On each competition sheet the top name(s) is/are the challenger(s) and the bottom name is/are the opponent(s).
There are two dates for each round, the first is the Offer by Date and the second is the Play by Date.
Offer by Date:
By this date the challenger(s) should have offered their opponent(s) two dates on which to play the match.
If after the offer by date a date to play has not been agreed then the opponent(s), after informing the competition secretary, should offer a date on which to play the match.
Play by Date:
The game must be played by this date. Whoever fails to play by this date will be disqualified from the competition.
Please plan ahead as being on holiday etc does not excuse anyone from competing on time.
The Competition Secretary’s decision in final.
Club Night
The club organises a roll-up for members on every Monday evening.
Registration: Register between 5.30-6.00pm at the desk in the clubhouse. Entry fee is £2pp.
Play: Teams will be selected by the event organiser with the objective of achieving a balance of experience in each team. The preferred format is triples in each rink but pairs or ‘odds’ may also be selected dependant on the number of players in each session.
Play will commence by 6.15pm and will consist of 15 ends (or fewer if light/weather
conditions do not permit all ends to be completed).
In each end the jack will be delivered by the team playing first but in order to provide a range of playing conditions, the skips will ensure that the first four ends will be played to a medium jack, ends 5-8 will be played to a long jack and ends 8-12 will be played to a short length jack. The final 3 ends will be played to the jack length selected by the team holding the jack.
Completed scorecards will be returned to the event organiser to calculate the points awarded to each player (see below).
Froude Cup
Points will be awarded to all entrants participating in the roll-ups for events between the first Monday in May and the Finals Weekend in September. Points will be awarded on each evening as follows:
All competitors – 1 point for attending
Win – 2 points for each team member
Draw – 1 point for each team member
Team winning by 10 or more shots – 1 bonus point for each team member.
At the end of the season the bowler with the most points will be awarded the Froude Cup. The cup will be shared in the event that two or more players end the season on the same number of points.
Note: The points scoring system will be trialled during the season and a review will be carried out at the end of the season with a recommendation to be submitted to the AGM in
2026.
