Whether you want to introduce a friend to bowls, learn the basics yourself, improve on your current bowling ability and knowledge or are keen to get some advice on a problem you are struggling with, then why not have a word with the coaching team at the club.
All coaching sessions will be tailored to your own individual requirements with the emphasis on having fun and improving your bowling. We have a qualified Level 2 Lawn Bowls coach and offer a friendly, flexible and relaxed approach to help you improve your bowls to your desired level.
The following Coaching Courses are planned for 2026 and will run subject to numbers interested:

Introduction to Bowling Course (6 weeks/sessions)
Aimed at completely New Bowlers. Coaching the basics of Delivery, Line and Length and the very basics of bowling etiquette and rules.
On completing the course you will have the confidence in your bowling ability and the knowledge of correcting things that inevitably go wrong. You will be at a level to fully participate in Club Night bowling as well as friendly matches, internal club competitions and the occasional league game.
Cost of the course is £30, which is included in your First Year Membership or fully refundable on joining if you choose to join at a later date.
The 2026 Introduction to Bowling Course will be held on the following dates:

New Bowlers Refresher (2 weeks/sessions)
Aimed at bowlers who completed the Introduction to Bowling Course but would like a short refresher.
Very brief coaching re-cap of Grip, Stance, How to get … Line, Weight and Consistency
Coaches will set up Purposeful Practice Drills and Games to re-embed previous content.
Markers Course – Tips and Tricks of Marking (1 week/session)
Aimed at anyone who wishes to improve their marking skills or wants a refresher. Covers:
- Filling out scorecards correctly
- Equipment required to mark a game
- What markers are (and aren’t) responsible for
- Covers likely and unlikely scenarios that might arise when marking a game
- Marking etiquette.
Reading The Head
Bowlers experienced at playing No.2 or Skip may attend by invitation. The course includes discussions of several Heads set up on the green, as well as exercises such as: “Phantom Head” and “Freezing the Head”. There will be discussion interspersed with opportunities to bowl. The course also covers tips on etiquette when playing in these advanced team positions.
The intention is to run the course as and when the Club will benefit – the purpose being to develop players who regularly participate in league and friendly games against other clubs. Participation in the course is by invitation only and there will be no “sign-up” sheet in the clubhouse.
