Clubhouse 2004-2006

In 2004/5 the Club members undertook a major extension to the east of the clubhouse. The major part of the financing was from Club funds, donations and interest free loans but helpful grants were obtained from the National Lottery Awards for All and the Earley Charity. The brickwork, roof tiling and plaster finishing were contracted out but members Richard Nice, Roy Wagstaff, Malcolm Avenell, Roger Gearing, Bill Harris and Mike Smit gave freely of their professional expertise. Many other members volunteered to help complete the project.

Mike Smit kindly kept a photographic record which is stored by the secretary. A selection is shown below. The first frame is dated 8 November 2004 and the last, the official opening of Phase 1 by Councillor John Howarth, 21 May 2005. Volunteers in the order in which they first appear are :

Richard Nice , Mike Smit, Bob Ridley, John Hall, Roy Wagstaff, Roger Gearing, Margaret Gearing, Angela Smit, Albert Waller, Malcolm Avenell, Margaret Sussex, Eve Brown, Roy Oswick, Jack Beard, Peter Talbott and David Brown.

In the following winter the project was completed by major improvements to the older parts of the clubhouse. Funding for the new kitchen was provided by Diane Hogsden in memory of her late husband Denis. County officials conducted the final opening of the completed project in May 2006.
