Coronavirus

I am writing to all members following the recent Government announcements on limiting social contact and protecting those who are ‘vulnerable’ because of the Coronavirus pandemic. The Management Committee have held an emergency meeting to consider the implications for Palmer Park Bowling Club. We needed to consider the fact that nearly all of our members are over 70 years of age and we also knew that Bowls England had cancelled all National Championships, National Competitions and other domestic events for this season and will reimburse clubs their affiliation fees. Also the County has cancelled all Ladies TVLL matches for the whole season as well as all Men’s Kennet League games for the first half of the season with the possibility of playing the second half, depending on Government guidelines in respect of the Coronavirus. The County will also be reimbursing affiliation and competition fees. Full details can be found on their websites (www.bowlsengland.com and www.berkshirebowling.com).
The decision has been taken to cancel all fixtures for 2020. This decision wasn’t made lightly, the Committee feels strongly that it has a duty of care to our members to keep them safe in these uncertain times.

You are asked not to use the Club house or Green until further notice.
The only exception will be the maintenance of the green, which will continue under David Brown’s administration.

  • The Member’s Open Evening has been cancelled
  • Woodley Pagoda has been cancelled

A few “Thank You’s”:

To Richard Stowell for all his work in the thankless task of organising the Club fixtures.
To Kate Lee for organising the new signs and preparing a package in readiness for new bowlers.
David Brown for organising the maintenance and care of the green.
To all those who have worked so hard every Saturday during the winter months on maintenance in and around the clubhouse and green.

Thank you for reading this notice and we hope that we can rely on your support and understanding in these difficult times. Until we can meet again at the Bowling Club, I hope you all stay fit, healthy and Coronavirus free. Please try to provide some support for fellow club members in these challenging times.
